Abstract

Submerged breakwaters are superior to offshore breakwaters because they look better. However, it is not easy to design submerged breakwaters that efficiently dissipate the energy of incident waves when the water depth alters considerably with the tide. Because it is necessary to keep the crown of submerged breakwaters underwater at low tide, the water depth of the breakwaters increases by several meters at high tide. This paper presents a design for an optimum breakwater that is impermeable and submerged. The design is derived from experimental results and a boundary element analysis (Kanoh et al. [1], [2]). 1 Introduction We studied the wave reflection at a submerged breakwater against oblique incid
