Abstract

The success of the Boundary Element Method (BEM) depends to a large extent upon the accurate evaluation of singular integrals on element domains. A semi- analytical integration scheme is described in this paper that is designed to reduce the errors incurred when integrals with singular integrands are evaluated numerically. This new scheme can be applied to linear isoparametric and subparametric triangular elements. The area of applicability is generic although attention is restricted here to steady-state thermal, elastostatic and steady-state elastodynamic problems. The scheme involves the use of an intrinsic polar co- ordinate scheme for the triangular element. For thermal and elastostatic problems, application of the polar co-ordinate scheme enables the integrals to be written as double integrals over the triangular
