Abstract

One of the recent approaches for combining the boundary element method (BEM) and the finite element method (FEM) is the so called "iterative domain decomposition coupling" in which the domain of the original problem is subdivided into sub-regions that are modeled by the FEM and BEM. Though there are various procedures for implementing the iterative coupling approach, the one discussed here mainly consists of assigning an initial guess for the interfacial potentials in the BE sub-region. The equivalent interfacial nodal fluxes are obtained and treated as boundary conditions for the FE sub-region to obtain a second set of interfacial potentials.
