Abstract

In this paper, two short-cut methods are described to obtain a more accurate stress intensity factor by decreasing the error due to high order terms in series expansions. One is a V-line stress extrapolation method and the other is a V-line displacement extrapolation method. The methods are based on choosing proper angles to minimize the effect of high order terms. These two methods need no superior technique and just use the data on double lines, and are available even by a simplest BEM or FEM code. By using the two methods, an accurate SIF is obtained even in a case that the conventional stress extrapolation method could not be applied. The V-line methods are especially suitable for BEM because stresses or displacements at any internal
