Abstract

The combined application of experimental and computational vibration analysis is well suited for characterizing changes in properties of composite materials, especially when caused by spreading damages. Describing the effects of damages on frequencies, mode shapes and damping, vibration testing is a valuable additi- on to other nondestructive testing methods. Different composite specimens have been investigated containing typical damages like matrix cracks and edge dela- minations or local tracks of oxidation. With the help of FE calculations test conditions are optimized and damages are simulated in a model, improving the understanding of damage mechanisms. 1 Introduction The vibration behaviour of materials and components ca
