Abstract

In this paper, a new computational method to analyse the effect of frictional bolts in underground openings is developed. It consists in transforming the action of the bolts in the rock into an equivalent volume force along the bolt's direction. The BEM formulation for the underground structures with frictional bolts is derived and the resulting weak singular integration is solved. A computer program has been developed and the method validated against FEM results. 1 Introduction BEM is the most popular numerical method nowadays after FEM. BEM has many advantages in requiring a small number of nodal points, producing accurate results and reducing the dimensionality of the problem by one. It can also deal with infinite field's problems. It is possible to easily apply the technique to deal with static or
