Abstract

A new boundary element formulation is presented for the identi- fication of the location and size of internal cracks in two dimensional structures. The dual boundary element method is proposed as the basis for the new formulation. The crack identification method is presented with the computation of the boundary displacement and stress derivatives. Examples are given to demonstrate the perfor- mance of the crack location algorithm. 1 Introduction In many industries, crack detection is required on structural components, for which there is a variety of methods available, the most popular of these being: Ultrasonics, Radiography, Magnetics and Electromagnetics. Collec- tively, these tests are kn
