Abstract

In this paper, a new method is presented for the evaluation of the stress intensity factors. The method is based on a modified distance extrapolation method. It is shown that by using the modified ex- trapolation technique accurate values of the stress intensity factors can be obtained from the stresses ahead of the crack tip. 1 Introduction Stress intensity factors for cracked bodies have been evaluated using many techniques. One of the most popular methods is the so-called extrapola- tion technique[1]. In this technique stress intensity factors are obtained by equating the boundary element solutions to the theoretical expressions for displacements or stresses near the crack tip. As, the stress fields are singular O(
