Abstract

An adaptive mesh redistribution method is constructed for a sloshing anal- ysis method which consists of two coupled equations: the boundary element equation and the weighted residual formulation of the pressure equation. In order to determine the optimum mesh uniquely for this coupled equation system, a functional of mesh distribution is defined as a weighted average of error estimators of these two discretized equations. Adaptive mesh redistri- bution is accomplished based on the stationary condition of the functional. The developed method is applied to a nonlinear sloshing in a rectangular container. 1. Introduction When a mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian method is used for water wave prob- lems, nodal points on a free surface move along the boundary. In this case, mesh distrib
