Abstract

An analysis of bridge dynamic response due to vehicles moving on rough bridge deck is conducted in this paper. The bridge is idealized as a prismatic beam with constant stiffness. A tractor-trailer is modeled as two rigid bodies subjected to translational and rotational motions. Three kinds of deck profiles were considered and their effect on the bridge dynamic response in terms of the dynamic amplification factor was studied. A sinusoidal profile was used to study the frequency influence, a smooth surface with a single sinusoidal depression was used to study the effect of local depressions on the bridge deck, and a random process was used to represent real road conditions. A comparison between experimental and analytical results of a simply supported T-girder bridge is also presented. 1 . Introduction The effect of moving vehicles
