Abstract
The Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) and Data Mining (DM) areas are now experiencing great evolution and expansion with applicability in several domains. Almost constantly, new models and techniques arise, with great capabilities and extensibility, which endures the decision process for production of a DM project to a very difficult level since, for a given problem, the number of variables to be instantiated and the experimentation of the disposable techniques and technologies are impractical. This paper presents a survey of the several variables and components that interfere in a DM project, namely the methodologies, the models, the techniques, the tools, the technologies and the application domains. According to this study, a DM project development support instrument is proposed, which consists on
