Abstract

Plan recognition for explanation: a chart-based system* R. Falcone & C. Castelfranchi Project 'Information Systems and Parallel Computations', U.O. Istituto di Psicologia-CNR Morz, J5 ABSTRACT A necessary requirement to give explanations about any event or situation involving agents is the capacity to understand the actions and their plans, motivations and effects. So what is needed is a PR system both general (as for applicative domain) and apt to be integrated with a more rich knowledge representation necessary for the explanation. CHAPLIN (CHart Applied to PLan INference) is a system for Chart-based Plan Recognition applied to the comprehension of vignettes' stories. The chart - traditionally used in NLP - is here presented and illustrated in his application ways to the Plan Analysis. We are discussing the advantages and the limits of this representation.
