Abstract

MIMD implementation of finite element analysis of viscoelastic polymer matrix composite structures S. Yi, K.H. Pierson, M.F. Ahmad, H.H. Hilton Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering Department, and Applied Mechanics Department, University of Illinois at ABSTRACT In the present study, a dynamic viscoelastic finite element algorithm is for- mulated in a scalable distributed parallel environment using a generic mes- sage passing library such as PVM. The conjugate gradient algorithm is used for the solution of the system equations. Various mesh sizes were considered and the problem is decomposed into a number of regions which are solved in an equal number of processors. The performance of a PVM master/slave viscoelastic finite element program is evaluated on the CM-5 Connection Machine.
