Abstract

A probabilistic strip-yield model for predicting fatigue crack growth L. Bukowski, P. Artymiak Department of Machine Design and Exploitation, University of Mining and Metallurgy, Cracow, Poland ABSTRACT The purpose of the paper was to work out an applicable on a design stage method for fatigue life prediction of simple machine components working under particular loading condition taking into consideration a random character of material properties they are made of. The Newman model was taken as a basic crack growth model. Procedure for converting experimental data from AS=const tests to results of AK=const tests is proposed. Then results of the pseudo-experiments performed at AK=const are elaborated to obtain mean values, standard deviations and probability distribution functions for model's constants which are assumed to store information about material properties.
