Abstract

The main objective of the work reported in this paper was to investigate the strain energy density (SED) distribution in a number of fracture test specimen. PAFEC (Programs for Automatic Finite Element Calculations) was used for de- termination of SED in different regions of 500mm x 100mm x 100mm beams in three and four point bending, compact compression test specimens. It is shown that the strain energy density was achieved between predicted fracture loads and good agreement was achieved between predicted loads and experimental results in the literature. 1 Introduction Various theories have been developed to describe failure and deformation phenomena of materials. Gillemote[l] points out that, although
