Abstract

A Tochnog application for blood flow simulation in human vessels G. Lorenzini Department of Agricultural Economics and Engineering, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, Italy Abstract In the last few year intravascular catheterisation has been broadly used as a diagnostic means to assess blood flow inside blood vessels. The presence of such a device, however, affects the measurements to be performed causing a disturbance in the flow field. An evaluation of the real nature of this affection has proved to be necessary in order to give reliability to the measurements carried out in-vivo: numerical modelling of the problem is therefore a relevant and quick aid and if done using a freeware code also a cheap solution. This paper uses for this purpose the free-licence numerical code \“Tochnog” and demonstrates that it can be applied giving an efficient numerical representation of the intravascular circulation.
