Abstract

CFD modeling of bubbly flow in a slug unit cell H. ~ a u x ' and R. schulkes2 'SINTEF Materials Technology, Norway 2~orsk Hydro Research Centre Porsgrunn, Norway Abstract Slug flow in horizontal pipes filled with oil-gas and water-air mixtures has been studied by means of CFD. The simulations have been carried out using a twofluid model for dispersed bubbles of given size. The computational domain has been the unit cell consisting of the slug and the liquid film underneath the largescale bubble. The film height could be obtained form a Id unit cell model. CFD simulations have been conducted mainly in 2d but also in 3d. The deposition of gas at the bubble rear end, at the bubble front and from the film to the large-scale bubble has been modeled. Many calculations (numerical experiments) have been run in which material properties, bubble size, pipe diameter and flow conditions have been varied. The analysis shows that, in particular in oil-gas systems, gas carry-over from the film into the slug i
