Abstract

Numerical study of the stress intensity factors for cracks in raceways with the experimentally determined interaction between crack faces M. Olzak & J. Stupnicki Warsaw University of Technology, Poland Abstract The paper presents the results obtained from numerical simulations of the process of rolling a loaded cylinder along a raceway with an oblique crack. The conditions of crack faces interaction were assumed based on the experimental results. The following two conditions of crack faces interaction were adopted: 1. Crack faces covered with layers of a worn out material, the mechanical properties of which were determined based on the results from experiments values of normal Kyy and tangential K^ respectively, rigidities of the thin layer containing a crack. 2. Crack faces covered with microaspherities, which forced the crack dilatation accompanying the tangential displacements. The simulations have proved that introduction to the numerical model of the process the la
