Abstract

The paper describes the mechanical behaviour of a three-body system com- posed of two adherends adhesively bonded by a thin viscoplastic adhesive layer when the thinness of the layer goes to 0. We first prove estimates on the displacement within the three-body system, which imply the existence of a critical link between the mechanical parameter characterizing the vis- coplastic layer and its thinness. The limit analysis is then performed using appropriate test-functions. 1 Introduction We consider two linear elastic bodies Qf and Q|, the adherends, joined by a thin adhesive layer ftg of thinness 2cA, where e is an adimensional parameter supposed small compared to the dimensions of Qf and Q| and h has the dimension of a length and will be taken equal to 1 in the sequel. ^o = u x ]-£, e[ is supposed to be a cyli
