Abstract

After a brief formulation of the sub-domain approach of the boundary element method for 2-D elastic contact problems, some application on analyzing the contact properties of journal bearing is presented. Some numerical results both for static and dynamic contact without or with friction are given. The curvature- variant journal bearing is a new kind of journal bearing derived from the principle of Tribology and Contact Mechanics, its contact properties have been investigated carefully using BEM.
