Abstract

A cylindrical rigid punch problem in contact with a half-plane with an oblique edge crack is analyzed in this paper. The punch is applied by vertical and horizontal loads. It is assumed that a Coulomb's frictional force exists on the contact region. The punch contacts smoothly at the both ends of the contact region. Therefore neither ends are singular points of stress and two restraining conditions must be formed so that stresses at the two ends tend to finite. In order to satisfy the two conditions simultaneously, iterating computation has to be performed to decide the positions of the two ends of the contact region, and then the length of the contact region
