Abstract

The influence of various local changes (a crack, a change of mass, a change of cross section) on eigen-vectors is studied. Incorporation of longitudinal displacements (besides transverse displacements and rotations) into the analysis offers significant conclusions about the change of the eigen-vectors. The comparison of the eigen-vector change for various types of the modifications clearly shows that some principles do exist from which it is possible not only to determine the location but also to argue the type of structure change. The role of specific deformations that belong to the eigen-modes is evident. 1 Introduction The influence of location and magnitude of the structure change on the response of the structure is an actual engineering problem. Yuen* offers a systematic study where he considers the eigenshape
