Abstract

Unilateral contact and friction in fractal interfaces. Numerical applications P.D. Panagiotopoulos^, O.K. These problems result from the consideration of the fractal interface as the unique "fixed point" or the "deterministic attractor" of a given Iterative Function System. On the in- terface unilateral contact with friction conditions are assumed to hold. The approximations of the fractal interface are combined with a two level unilat- eral contact-friction algorithm based on the optimization of the consecutive potential and of the complementary energy, after some appropriate trans- formations are performed. Numerical examples from rock mechanics, bone mechanics and fracture eng
