Abstract

The paper presents the results of applying the IHMS-HBV model to several catchment areas in Estonia. The main purpose of the results presented below is to identify the impact of human activity and climatic variability on the hydrological regime. Air temperature data for the period 1900 to 1990 showed an overall warming of 0.5-1.0 oC for the Estonian territory (Jaagus [4]). Besides climate variation, significant land-use changes have occurred. In 1960s, two thirds of the Estonian wetlands were intensively reclaimed and deforested for the development of agriculture.
