Abstract

Emission inventories for organochlorine pesticides Y. F. Li & S. Venkatesh Meteorological Service of Canada, Environment Canada, Canada Abstract During the last decade, a number of studies have been devoted to studying the sources and emissions organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), in which carbon and chlorine are combined due to considerable evidence that persistent OCPs circulate globally and accumulate in remote areas like the Arctic. High quality emission inventories for OCPs are considered a valuable contribution to the effort to understand and predict the distribution and fate of these chemicals on both regional and global scales. Since the early 1990~~ Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC), Environment Canada started a series of studies to establish the emission inventories of OCPs in both global and regional scales, and to study the impact of these emissions to the environment worldwide, the Arctic in particular. The efforts made by MSC have significantly contributed to the Canadian North
