Abstract

In this paper, an integrated computational structure for the study of the transient flow and the sediment dynamics occurring in rivers (one-dimensional analysis) and estuaries (two-dimensional analysis) is presented. The physical processes are described and explained as well as their implementation in computational models. Adequate numerical techniques for the resolution of the hydrodynamics continuity and momentum equations and the sediment continuity equation based on control volumes, together with appropriate boundary conditions, are implemented. Mathematical formulation and numerical basis of the method are presented. It is shown the ability of the model to reproduce the hydrodynamics and the sediment
