Abstract

The effective height approach, using wind tunnel dispersion data, provides a practical method of assessing the dispersion of plumes affected by building wakes, with respect to the critical group The technique can also be used to examine the detailed design of the stack to avoid plume down wash in the stack wake, and to examine concentrations at critical ventilation intakes. In this respect, careful choice of efflux velocity and flue design can be more rewarding and less expensive than increasing the stack height. 1 Introduction The environmental impact of discharges of radioactivity to the atmosphere is often assessed by models that trace the radioactivity through a number of compartments such as atmospheric concentration, deposition, transfer to crops and food products, to in
