Abstract

An appropriate representation of aerosol size distribution is a key to the accurate simulation of aerosol-cloud interactions and aerosol radiative forcing. A 1-D version of a global aerosol/cloud/chemistry model using the modal and the sectional approaches is developed to study the impact of different size representations on aerosol modeling. The relative advantages of the two approaches in representing aerosol-cloud-interaction processes such as aerosol activation and aqueous chemistry are evaluated.
