Abstract

The present paper reports the first experimental results on a sewer made of poly- ethylene with artificial macro roughness. The aim of macro roughness, which is manufactured by stamping after extrusion of the pipe, is to slow down flow in very steep sewers by dissipating a share of energy [e.g. Butera *]. This is important in sewerage built in very steep grounds where the water veloc- ity is controlled by sumps where water can jump. The authors propose a study of artificial macro roughness sewer to solve this problem. Experimental tests were carried out in the Laboratory of the Water Engineering Department of Ban Polytechnic. The experimental apparatus was built on an existing rectangular channel, having a variable slope (from 0 degree to 11 degree), which
