Abstract

This paper presents some results of a methodology to model the sanitary quality of beaches and bathing waters. A full data modeling approach is used. All the variables related to sea conditions and water pollution are accessed by neural net simulation obtained from measured data along the years. The correlation and variable sensitivity are established and a data mining prediction model is built. This methodology is applied to a Rio de Janeiro specific beach. The results and some conclusions are discussed. 1 Introduction Located in the second metropolitan area of the country, the Rio de Janeiro city is a focus of attraction, both local and international. Punctuated by world-famous tourist attractions, it is specially known by it
