Abstract

As part of an environmentally oriented study 800 women from two Berlin boroughs between 30 and 45 years of age were examined with regard to their exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons and lead and cadmium. In the study area the actual exposure against vehicle emissions -the major source of exposure- was very different. The daily traffic density varied between 170 and 38.000 cars/day. The aim of this investigation was to determine the actual exposure of a representative population of Berlin to these xenobiotics and to evaluate the influence of other factors on the parameters measured in blood and indoor air.
