Abstract

Dry deposition is typically modeled as an independent process for each species. This approach may be inaccurate downwind of industrialized urban areas with rapid photochemistry. The current sturdy compares three Eulerian modeling approaches: a first-order closure model with independent transport and deposition; a first-order closure model with gas-phase reactions; and, a second-order flux budget model with gas-phase reactions. Two scenarios from a polluted industrial area are considered: ozone nonattainment and early morning ozone attainment. Vertical concentration and flux profiles for nitrogen oxides, ozone, peroxyacetylnitrate, nitric acid, and aldehydes from the three modeling approaches are compared for each scenario. Damkohler numbers are calculated at three heights to determine species sensitivity to th
