Abstract

The "Chemical Amplifier' technique for measurement of peroxy radicals in air is based on measurement of NO] generated by a chain reaction initiated by peroxy-radicals. The response of the method to a series of n-alkyl peroxy radicals has been tested in the laboratory. For the peroxy-alkyl radicals in the range C| to Cs. a decreasing signal was found for increasing number of carbon atoms. 1 Introduction Organic peroxyradicals (ROi*) and hydro-peroxyradicals (HO?*) are key intermediates in the atmospheric oxidation of hydrocarbons and other volatile organic compounds (VOC). Reaction of OH with VOCs and CO leads to the formation of these peroxy radicals which, in turn, form also the corresponding alk
