Abstract

A practical puff model based on the Monin-Obukhov similarity theory is presented. The model (written in FORTRAN and named SPM: Skewed Puff Model) utilises approximate solutions proposed by van Ulden for the dispersion of a cloud of passive contaminant released from a source near the ground and where particular importance is given in describing the interaction between wind shear and vertical diffusion and in the process that transforms shear produced skewness into diffusive variance in the wind direction. The concentrations calculated with the model are compared with tracer data: 20 minute averaged measured concentrations and 10 minute averaged values for meteorological data. 1.
