Boznar Jozef Stefan Institute, Jamova 39, SI-6100 Ljubljana, Slovenia ABSTRACT Air pollution caused by industrial sources is still one of the biggest environmental problems in Slovenia. In order to monitor this pollution automated environmental information systems were built. A typical example of such system is described. Guidelines are given for the strategy of monitoring air pollution in complex terrain trying to get an equilibrium between expenses, the available funds and system performances desired.
