Abstract

Environmental information systems in Slovenia P. Mlakar, M. Boznar Jozef Stefan Institute, Jamova 39, SI-6100 Ljubljana, Slovenia ABSTRACT Air pollution caused by industrial sources is still one of the biggest environmental problems in Slovenia. In order to monitor this pollution automated environmental information systems were built. A typical example of such system is described. Guidelines are given for the strategy of monitoring air pollution in complex terrain trying to get an equilibrium between expenses, the available funds and system performances desired. Its terrain varies from very complex mountainous, midmauntainous with a lot of basins and valleys to partially flat type. A lot of industry and thermal power plants are placed in valleys and basins.
