Abstract

Calculations of natural hydrocarbon emissions in the Valley of Mexico L.G. Ruiz Suarez, M. Imaz, M.B. Mar Centra de Ciencias de la Atmosfera, Universidad National Autonoma de Mexico, Circuito Exterior, Cuidad Universitaria, Mexico D.F., 04510, Mexico ABSTRACT Air pollution is a pervasive problem in Mexico City, it affects not only the health of its inhabitants but also infrastructure and near by crops or forest. Impact of photochemical smog and acid rain on forest and crops is a well documented fact. A less known process is the possible impact of natural emissions of hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxides on the air quality of urban areas near to forest and crop areas. On this contribution we show our current work aiming to obtain an updated inventory of natural sources within the Valley, as well as to obtain emission factors from prevalent tree species and under the dominant climatic conditions (dry and rain seasons).
