Abstract

Level crossings (LCs) are places of rail and road intersections, and therefore, areas with increased risk of severe accidents. The main objective of this study is to apply the multi-criteria Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to evaluate the variants for the reconstruction of LCs in an urban environment through weighting of various criteria and sub-criteria. The research methodology is applied on LC Trnava in Zagreb. Four developed variants are presented and evaluated with AHP method. For apply- ing the AHP method the Expert Choice software package has been used. Simulation of the current state and optimal variant is made in PTV VISSIM. This approach may prove useful by the AHP method for evaluating and selecting the appropriate LC designs.
