Abstract

This paper provides an overview of fish protection best practice and guidance in Germany. It states the preferred fish protection technologies in Germany and summarizes recommended screening criteria for physical barriers. Issues and experiences associated with pilot fish protection facilities are outlined. Incentives for fish protection facility installation in Germany and their respective funding mechanism are detailed. Finally a brief summary of recent and current efforts to improve fish protection in Germany is given.
