Abstract

The Hong Kong Kowloon-Cantoon Railway Corporation (KCRC) is undertaking a project to design and construct a new railway called the West Rail (WR), which on completion will extend the existing KCRC network by 53 km. The West Rail will provide a direct rail link between urban Kowloon and the northwest New Territories as well as cross-boundary passenger and freight train services to China. This paper describes the current development of a systems engineering framework for defining the system architecture, boundaries and interfaces of the project-wide systems, and gives an outline of the approach for managing the process, in particular the application of a systems engineering database for the management of operational, performance and interface requirements. 1.
