Abstract

In the general framework of potential theory, we present a water wave model, which accounts for the energy dissipation due to bottom friction. The complete development of the final equations is reported for the sig- nificant cases of pure diffraction, diffraction-refraction and pure re- fraction, together with a comparison with related models. We report also some suggestions for the infinite element implementation. 1 Introduction Water wave models based on potential theory are widely used in engi- neering applications, mainly because of their computational efficiency. In our opinion, however, the main drawback of such models consists of the impossibility of taking into account any form of energy dissipation, with possible overestimations of certain significant quan
