Abstract

This paper deals with the estimation of the damage location of severely damaged Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures excited by earthquakes. It is assumed that the building is instrumented with a sensor measuring the earthquake acceleration signal at ground surface and a sensor measuring only a single output response such as the top storey displacement. Based on these measurements it is assumed that the variation in the two lowest smoothed averaged circular eigenfrequencies can be estimated. To get a damage measure in terms of stiffness loss, a relation between stiffness loss and the time variation of the smo
